Viktor E. Frankl: The Existentialist?
At Barnes and Noble today I bought a new book on Existentialism and have been reading it for the last half hour or so. In it is an excerpt on my beloved Viktor Frankl, the haulocaust survivor, psychiatrist and author, who is asserted here as an existentialist! Was surprised b/c I've never heard his name attached to it before, but it brought up the beauty of his story. This is a man who formed a team amongst his fellow inmates of the concentration camp to help PREVENT SUICIDES. Even as they were condemned to die, he found meaning in life, and developed his "logotherapy" in the camp. Logotherapy is used to repair a person's sense of meaning in order to regain control of their lives. "From the Greek, logos, reason" You know how people ask you whom would you love to have dinner with, or similar questions.......I would've loved to sit down with Viktor Frankl and let him remind me why life is beautiful, even when it isn't. jody
